Cast Auditions

Step 1 - Sign Up for an Audition Slot

Step 2 - Fill out the Audition Form

Step 3 - Prepare a Monologue

We are asking you to bring a monologue this year! No sides (scripts) will be utilized in the audition. Your monologue can be comedic or dramatic in nature. 1-2 minutes long.

The second half of the audition will consist of the directors giving you a slip of paper that will give you context and the actions of a scene. After reading, you will have a moment to collect your thoughts, and then mime the mini scene. You will not speak - simply show the emotions and actions that are read.

The purpose of this exercise is to evaluate physical storytelling, spatial awareness, and subtext without relying on dialogue.

Example

Context: You are a 16 year old girl named Ella - you just got home from school. It’s October, so you’ve been at your new school where you transferred for a little over a month. You’ve been making friends, and you’re proud of yourself.

Mime: You step off of the bus, walk in the house, realize there’s no one home to talk to about your day at school. Walk to the kitchen, grab a diet coke out of the fridge, sit on the couch, and start [an activity].

Step 4 - Auditions, Callbacks, First Rehearsal

September 8 & 9: Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your audition time in case we are running ahead of schedule.

September 10: Callbacks! 3:45-5pm You will be contacted via the email you provided in your audition form. This will be where we introduce the script and play around with different combinations of actors in different roles. Sides will be provided ahead of time.

All cast will report to rehearsal on Monday, September 14th, 3:30 - 5:00 pm.

Synopsis

What we love about it

Where there is injustice, there is first selfishness and self centeredness - something we see around us today. Though the lack of knowledge surrounding the impacts of radium on the body was initially due to lack of access to information, as information was made available no changes were made to the way things were because if changes were made, those in power would have to relinquish their comfort and control. The characters give us a window into every corner of this dynamic - a dynamic we are all impacted by every day.

What we are looking for in auditions

Though set in 1918, the themes portrayed in this play are present in our everyday lives. Because of this, there will be extra care taken to identify how we relate to the characters. Finding our own inner motives and experiences will take an emotional toll - in auditions, we’ll be looking for actors that are able to bring authenticity and vulnerability to the stage. We don’t just want to see actors putting on a play - we want to see you in active reflection. Emotional intelligence and professionalism will be of the utmost importance.
